    Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is like THE food holiday, and since we didn’t drive back home, we had our own Thanksgiving dinner here. It was my first time cooking a turkey, as well as the whole dinner. Everything was really good, except my Caramel Apple pie was invisibly ruined. First, the turkey:

Yesterday, I made this delicious peach cobbler from Allrecipes.com. Its got the fruit on the bottom, then an oat-crisp top and a dash of cinnamon on top. Recipe here. The recipe title is Peach Crisp III, but I know it as cobbler, so that’s what I’m going to call it.

I deviated from the recipe though. I put 1 cup of oats because I didn’t have granola. I also didn’t use the nutmeg, allspice, or pecans on top. I really liked the way it turned out. Definitely worth a try.

I saw a recipe similar to this in my pretty “Barbeque” cookbook, but I didn’t have most of those ingredients, so I made up my own.

I marinated the chicken in some “Southwest” flavor marinade, and then grilled it on my grill pan. The fruit salsa is a green apple, an orange, some canned pineapple, a tomato, and a little bit of Apricot-Pineapple jam melted and stirred in.

It was really good! It was light, tasty, and pretty healthy.

I took this picture with my new camera too!

Last week, some friends invited us over for an “appetizer party.” I thought it was a good idea and would be fun to see all the different things people would bring. As the party approached I became more and more concerned about what I was going to make because I never make appetizers–when I cook, I’m usually making dinner, or some dessert but not appetizers because appetizers just aren’t filling enough.

I spent some time searching around. I was considering making some chicken wings, shrimp cocktail, chicken quesadillas, or a few other things… but I always like making new recipes and I hadn’t quite found that perfect something. So, on the day of the party, I was frantically searching for something tasty to make, and I found it. It was a fruit salsa and cinnamon chips! Its pretty quick and doesn’t take much work to make. The recipe is here: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Annies-Fruit-Salsa-and-Cinnamon-Chips/Detail.aspx

Here in Utah, its time for ripe peaches. Since peaches are so good, I thought that it probably wouldn’t be too hard to make something good out of peaches. I looked through all my cookbooks, and spent a while searching online before deciding on a recipe. The recipe I chose was “Peaches and Cream Tart” from the pink Better Homes and Gardens cookbook. It was delicious!

What is a tart? I didn’t know the formal definition either, but according to Wikipedia: it’s a type of pie, with an open top. From other tarts I’ve seen, I would say they’re usually made with fruit and are usually thinner than a pie too. Here’s a pic to illustrate:

Scones are a world of confusion. Here in Utah, most people know a scone as deep fried bread, like the base for Navajo Tacos. There’s even a fast-food restaurant chain based on it called Scone-Cutter. It seems that in other parts of the world, everyone knows the kind of scone in this recipe — the British scone. According to wikipedia, a scone is a quick bread, like a biscuit.

I found this recipe a while ago and it looked delicious so I bookmarked it. It looked really good, and it also used yogurt as an ingredient which was interesting. Then, when I wanted to make it, I couldn’t find it! A few days ago I found it again, so I decided to just make it right then and there. The recipe is from Baking Bites, another cooking blog.

The scones turned out delicious, and I would highly recommend them! Recipe is below…
